Our Manifesto

Fundamental Principles for Global AI Regulation

At GAIR, we believe that artificial intelligence should be developed and deployed under clear ethical principles that protect humanity while allowing for technological progress. Our manifesto sets out the following fundamental principles:

1. Transparency and Explainability

AI systems should be transparent in their operation and capable of providing understandable explanations for their decisions, especially when they affect individual rights.

2. Accountability and Accountability

There should be clear attribution of responsibility for the actions and decisions of AI systems, with effective mechanisms for redress when they cause harm.

3. Equity and Non-Discrimination

AI systems should be designed to avoid discriminatory bias and promote equal treatment for all people regardless of their race, gender, religion or other protected characteristics.

4. Security and Robustness

AI systems must be safe, reliable and robust against errors, tampering or malicious use.

5. Privacy and data protection

The development and use of AI must strictly respect privacy rights and personal data protection.

6. Social and Environmental Benefit

AI must be developed for the benefit of all humanity and the environment, not just for individual commercial or political interests.

7. Human Control

Critical decisions that affect human lives must remain under meaningful human control and supervision.
